Debra ‘Debi’ Hoopingarner Johnson went to her eternal home on November 12th, 2025.
She was born on March 19th, 1956 in New Castle, Indiana to Gerald ‘Skip’ Hoopingarner and Kathleen Lawson Cain. Debi lived every day under the sun. A free spirited and selfless soul, she never let a dull moment pass her by.
Many described her as a wild child, a testament to the free spirit that carried her throughout life. She was a true “go with the flow” kind of gal.She poured her heart into everyone and the pets she loved, always giving more of herself than she ever asked in return.
Her last few years were filled with struggles but her unwavering, quiet strength was built on love, resilience, and a fierce devotion to those she held dear. Above all, she cherished her family.
She is preceded in death by her mother Kathleen (Lawson) Cain; sister Kim (Hoopingarner) Oehme; stepmother Edith Hoopingarner and nephew Tyler Oehme.
Survivors include father, Gerald ‘Skip’ Hoopingarner; daughter, Samantha (Johnson) Steers; granddaughter, Madison Steers; sisters, Patty (Wolfe) Lake and Lynn Whiting; her brothers, Kent Hoopingarner, Jay Wallace, and Chuck Martin; her nieces Julie Petrie, Brandi Hingson, Montana Lake, and Savannah Lake; nephews Caleb and Brent; her closest friend and cousin Paula Johnson and many other cousins and her dogs Mo and Lilly.
Those who were blessed to know her should find comfort in knowing she is reunited with so many loved ones and that her radiant spirit will continue to shine in our hearts.
