Arlene Marie “Tiny” Ahlgrim
Dec. 27, 1941 – Nov. 10, 2025
Arlene Marie “Tiny” Ahlgrim gained her angel wings on Nov. 10, 2025, at age 83. Tiny was born on Dec. 27, 1941, in Denver, CO, to Edward E. and Frances M. (Gangl) Obrecht. At age four, the family moved to a farm north of Longmont. Tiny attended Mead High School where she was a cheerleader and participated in choir, graduating in 1960.
Tiny met the love of her life, Otto L. Ahlgrim, II, in 1955. After a five- year courtship (her father wouldn’t let her date until she was 15), Tiny and Otto married on May 26, 1962, in Longmont.
Tiny worked a variety of jobs, starting at her aunt’s diner, Lutes Drug on Main Street, stay-at-home mom, school bus driver, clerk at Longmont Police Department, clerk at Hitching Post Cleaners, and City of Longmont Parks.
What Tiny will be remembered most for are her exquisite and delicious cakes. For over 30 years, she made most of the wedding cakes in Longmont and throughout Colorado, as well as many birthday, anniversary, graduation, retirement and all-occasion cakes. She even purchased a printer to allow her to put edible photos on cakes. A very nurturing grandmother, she often encouraged her grandchildren make and decorate their own mini cakes.
During her cake days, she worked part-time gigs, including delivering the Left Hand Valley Courier in South Longmont and Niwot for many years, and watering the potted flowers in Niwot.
Always one for adventure, she owned and drove her own motorcycle, broke both ankles (at the same time) rollerblading with her grandchildren, got her first tattoo at 68 and zip lined Freemont Street in her 70s. She was known for her kind and caring ways, often taking food, flowers and cards to family, friends and neighbors. Tiny adored babies, holding all that she came into contact with.
Preceding Tiny in death were her husband, Otto, parents Edward & Frances Obrecht, sister Edwina Diekman, brother Edward “Butch” Obrecht, Jr.; and nephew, Dean Diekman.
Survivors include daughter Vicki Maurer and her husband Tony; son Todd Ahlgrim and his wife Shawn; grandchildren Alex Maurer, Kirsten Maurer and her fiance’ Mathew Tocko; great granddaughter Betty Wood; sister Marilyn Holsclaw of Bartlesville, OK, and brother Ronald Obrecht and his wife Tammy of Longmont; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her presence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Fri. Nov 21, 2025, at Messiah Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Trailwinds Hospice, 4710 Table Mesa Dr Unit B, Boulder, CO 80305, or Messiah Lutheran Church, 1335 Francis St., Longmont, CO 80501.
