Raymond Frank Drewer, 90, passed from this life on May 17, 2014 at Bonell Good Samaritan Community in Greeley. He was born October 1, 1923, to Homer and Nellie (Worrell) Drewer in Fairfield, NE. Ray moved to Greeley at the age of thirteen and worked as a farm hand until he enlisted in the Navy. He served during WW II on the U.S.S. Deuel, a transport ship used to transport troops to various battle locations – most notably, Iwo Jima; and later the ship served as a temporary hospital ship to transport the wounded to a base hospital in Guam. Ray was a member of the Evans VFW Post 6624. After his military service, Ray returned to Colorado and became a truck driver. He was a true professional behind the wheel and was respected by his peers who often commented, ”Ray is a damm good truck driver.” On October 25, 1947 he married Ethel Betz in Greeley. Ray retired from trucking in 1988 and spent his time camping, woodworking and caring for his pets. He will be remembered by his family as a devoted "family man” who especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Ray is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ethel Drewer; daughter, Linda (Vic) Fiscus; grandchildren, Richard (Alissa) Waterman, Marci (Ronnie) Lucas, Lainey (Michael) Terwilliger, Robert (Elaine) Waterman, Alissa Waterman, Clint (Tammy) Fiscus, and Victoria (Lance) Feland; 18 great grandchildren; and a brother, Chuck Drewer. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sande Fuqua; four brothers and four sisters. Services will include a visitation at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2104, followed by a celebration of Ray’s life at 11:00 a.m. , both at Adamson Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to "Weld County Humane Society” in care of Adamson Funeral Home, 2000 47th Ave. Greeley, Colorado 80634. Condolences may be sent to the family at AdamsonChapels.com
