Gary Robert Russell, age 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.

Gary was born in Rural Altadena, California. He lived a life defined by hard work, perseverance, and devotion to his family.

Gary proudly served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971 as a cook and chef aboard the USS Clamagore. Following his military service, he built a long and steady career through a variety of roles. He worked at Colorado State University and Citizens Printing as a pressman for more than 20 years, set mobile and modular homes with Neata Homes for three years, and later worked at Safeway as a Front End Manager for five years, retiring in 2021.

Gary cherished life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing games and spending as much time as possible with his beloved wife, Mary. Whether sitting together at home or out on a walk, Gary was always reaching for her hand—a small but constant gesture that reflected his devotion. He found happiness in everyday moments, valuing togetherness over grand displays.

He was always busy, always moving, and always working. Known for his strong work ethic, Gary routinely rose at 4:00 a.m. to ride his bike to work. Even after long days, he continued to serve his family—helping with cooking, cleaning, and whatever else needed to be done. His love showed not in words, but in his actions, his consistency, and his unwavering presence.

As a father, Gary was disciplined and firm during his children’s early years. With time, he grew gentler, gaining a deeper respect for his children and the adults they became. His love continued to be shown through his reliability, quiet support, and constant presence.

Gary was also an avid cyclist, finding joy and purpose on his bike and always welcoming the challenge it offered. He completed Ride the Rockies three times, including one especially meaningful ride alongside his son, Craig. Even after recovering from pneumonia, Gary refused to sit out, choosing instead to push forward with quiet determination. When his body finally required him to step back, he did so with humility—not defeat. His ride reflected the way he lived his life: with grit, hard work, perseverance, and an unshakable resolve to keep going.

Gary also loved trips to Tamarack in Idaho with his son Brian, where he made some of his happiest memories on the slopes. Brian and the grandchildren will always be grateful for the many trips Grandpa took them on—teaching them how to ski, cheering them on, and sharing his love for the mountains. Those days were about more than skiing; they were about being together, laughing, and learning from him. These cherished memories, and the love Gary gave so freely, will be carried in their hearts forever.

Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Russell; his sons Craig Russell and wife Lisa, and Brian Russell and wife Angel; his cherished grandchildren Chloe, Nathan, Brianna, Ireland, Liam, and Aidan Russell; his great-grandchild Julian Hatfield; his sister Nancy Barker; and his brother Richard Russell.

Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1730 West 12th Street, Loveland, Colorado 80537, on Friday, January 09, at 10:00 a.m. Floral arrangements may be delivered to the front entrance of the church up to one hour prior to the service.

Gary will be remembered for his strength, discipline, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to his family.
