Joan C. (Marcy) Allen, born on May 26, 1933, in Springfield, Massachusetts, peacefully departed this life on December 28, 2025, with her loving family by her side. A devoted family member, teacher, musician, and friend, Joan's spirit will be dearly missed. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Helen (King) Marcy; her brother, Ronald Marcy; and her husband of 41 years, Richard L. Allen in 1995. She is survived by her sons, David and Mark, along with Mark's wife, Sue. She also leaves her grandchildren, Meghan Matczak and her husband Chris, and Samuel Allen and his wife Maddy; her great-grandchildren, Makenna, Leanna, and Sadie Matczak, and Eli and Archer Allen; and her sister-in-law, Judi Marcy and her children Suzanne and Glenn. Joan held a special place in her heart for her many dear friends, sharing lifelong bonds that were formed in her choir and yoga groups. Joan graduated from Palmer High in 1950, as valedictorian and class president. Joan attended Oberlin College through her sophomore year, and then followed her heart and married Richard during his Air Force years in Darmstadt, Germany. Joan dedicated over 28 years to serving as the organist, choir director, and Minister of Music at the First Congregational Church in Brimfield. She taught piano and organ to untold numbers of students in the Brimfield area. Joan found great friends during her 13 years working as a research librarian at Old Sturbridge Village. She started teaching yoga classes back in 1974, well before it was a mainstream activity. She even taught chair yoga classes during her years at Quaboag on the Common in West Brookfield. She made the most of her time there with the wonderful and caring staff. An active member of St. Paul's Universalist Church in Palmer for over 80 years, Joan's family has a long-standing involvement with the church that spans generations. Guided by her faith, she was known for her kindness and loving demeanor, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. A celebration of Joan's life will follow the next morning, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Universalist Church in Palmer. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to St. Paul's Universalist Church, 1060 Central St., Palmer, MA 01069. Joan C. Allen will be lovingly remembered for her warm spirit, how she made people feel, the respect she inspired and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
