Barbara Harwood, age 84, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 30, 2025, in Loveland, Colorado.
Barbara was born on September 5, 1941, in Tooele, Utah, to Ralph and Dorothy Stone. She had one brother, Larry Stone (Gloria), to whom she was extremely close. Family was always at the heart of her life, and she cherished the time spent with them.
On September 21, 1973, she married the love of her life, Dennis Harwood. In 1978, Barbara and Dennis moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where they built a life together and enjoyed many experiences, traveling whenever they could and appreciating life’s simple pleasures.
Barbara was the proud mother of seven children: Jolene Malizia; Buddy Sorensen; John “Buddy” Sorensen (Donna); Terri Lyn Batrez; Michelle Wilson (Lucas); Kacie Reed (Aaron); and Keri Sizemore. She cared for each of them individually, making sure their needs were met every day — from preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner to keeping laundry done and clothes neatly ironed. She also took pride in maintaining a clean and tidy home, creating a comfortable environment for her family.
She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Stacie Womack (Thumper), Travis Malizia (Desiree), Christopher Sorensen (Stevie), Katie McKinley (Paige), Gerald Brandon Batrez, Daniel Valdez, Matthew Valdez, Kennard Achuletta, Nicole Hill, Cameron Olson, Kelsey Mooney, Kilyn Reed, and Lawson Sizemore (Izzy), along with 15 great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved.
Barbara enjoyed many simple pleasures in life. She loved to travel with Dennis whenever she could, feeding the squirrels off her back porch, and tending to her potted flowers. She delighted in decorating her home for holidays, especially Christmas, doing word searches, going shopping, watching old movies, her favorite soap operas, and laughing and talking with her family and friends. She never met a stranger and had a gift for talking to anyone and everyone.
Barbara will be remembered for her practical, caring nature, spit-fire personality, and her sense of humor. She was always there for family and friends when they needed her, and her legacy lives on through the many generations she nurtured and loved.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis Harwood; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Dorothy Stone; her brother, Larry Stone; her sons, Buddy Sorensen and John “Buddy” Sorensen; and her daughter, Keri Sizemore.
