Mark Alfred Hinze, 93, of Greeley, passed away
on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
He was born in Nebraska to Alfred and Marie Hinze.
When Mark was twelve, his family relocated to the college town of Greeley, where his dad worked in the post office and his mom taught school for many years.
Mark was a hard worker, helping neighbor farmers with simple farm tasks as a kid, and landing his first regular job as a sacker at Safeway. In high school, he developed a love for forestry when he spent a couple of summers working in the fish hatchery in Estes. But his professors in Greeley encouraged him to complete his college degree in accounting at Denver University. After graduating, he served as Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade in the supply corps during the Korean War. While he was in the service, he was home in Greeley on leave and fell for a lovely young gal singing in the choir at church. He and Betty were married in 1956, and he whisked her off to San Diego, where he was stationed. After his Navy service, they returned to Colorado where he practiced accounting for many years, later transitioning to Mr. Steak as a restaurateur, and finally finishing out his long career as an investment account manager.
Mark got the flying bug at an early age and later earned his pilot’s license, occasionally flying his excited kids around Greeley and the surrounding plains in his Cessna 150. He later joined the local Experimental Aircraft Association and could be seen in the Weld County skies flying his ultralight aircraft from time to time. He enjoyed skiing, swimming, dancing and traveling with his lifelong sweetheart and attending Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra concerts with her. He served in his church, his homeowner’s association, on the Greeley School Board, and later enjoyed volunteering with the Greeley schools.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Carlene and Ardis, and his beloved wife, Betty.
Mark is survived by his brother Greg, sister Mary Lea, his children Stephen, Chrysten and Michael, daughter-in-law Cristy, and his grandchildren, Jordan and Jason.
Memorial Services will be held for Mark on January 24, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 W. 20th Street, Greeley, CO with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or the American Heart Association (www.heart.org)
