It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anne J. Szafranowicz, age 90, who departed this life peacefully at her home on January 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on January 1, 1936, in Whatley, MA, Anne lived a life rich in love, family, and cherished memories. Anne was raised in Northampton and has been a resident of South Hadley since 1960. She was proud to attend her 70th class reunion from Northampton High School. During her career, Anne devoted many years to working in the kitchen at Mount Holyoke College, where she nourished not only the bodies but also the spirits of those she served. A devoted fan of New England sports, Anne particularly cherished her Boston Bruins, proudly sporting her team colors. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including engaging in hook rugging, relishing sweet treats, and was an avid reader, reading countless books, with her favorites being mysteries.  Thrifting, tag sales and bus trips with the senior center also brought her much joy along with Friday night bowling.  Many will remember her warm smile and remarkable memory, as she never failed to remember birthdays and anniversaries within her large family. Anne will be warmly remembered by her sons: John and his wife Joanne, and Daniel and his wife Mary, as well as her son Jason and his wife Maggie. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Strempek, her children Eddie and Debbie Strempek, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren who will carry forth her legacy of love and joy. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Lydia (Merski) Baj, her husband, John A. Szafranowicz, who passed in 1977, and daughter, Laurie Parker. Visitation will be 10:30 AM to 12 PM at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 12 PM on Friday, January 23. Burial will be at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that condolences be sent to DAKIN, remembering her love for her cats.
