Andrew Schot, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home on January 11, 2026. He was born on February 2, 1931, in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.Andrew was a Holocaust survivor whose life bore witness to resilience, faith, and service. At the age of 12, he was captured and confined in a German labor camp during World War II. Despite enduring unimaginable hardship, he devoted much of his later life to Holocaust education and remembrance, particularly for young people. His story has been preserved in numerous historical archives, ensuring that future generations will remember and learn from his experiences.In 1950, Andrew immigrated to the United States with his family and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1951. That same year, he was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he built a distinguished career spanning 25 years of honorable service.On June 9, 1956, Andrew married the love of his life, JoAnn, in Provo, Utah. Together they shared nearly seven decades of marriage and raised three sons: Andrew Jr., Edward, and Hans.Andrew was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived a life centered on service to others. He was deeply involved in his community including contributing many years to the Boy Scouts of America and later Shriners International.His dedication and character were recognized through numerous honors, including being named the The Liberty Bell Award for the Most Outstanding Naturalized Citizen of 1976 by the Pima County Bar Association. He also obtained the Boy Scouts of America’s Eagle Scout Rank and was presented with the Silver Beaver Award, the only military member to have ever received it at that time.Andrew enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies throughout his life, including golf, bowling, woodworking, leather crafts, painting, karaoke, and many others. His curiosity and creativity never faded, and he embraced life with enthusiasm and humor.His life was one of endurance, faith, and service. His legacy will continue through his family, his community, and the countless lives touched by his story.Andrew is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn; his sons, Andrew Schot Jr., Edward Schot, and Hans Schot (Claudia); five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 19, 2025, followed by a reception to share memories and celebrate Andrew’s life, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints East Stake Center, 6901 E. Kenyon Drive, Tucson, Arizona.Internment at Binghampton Cemetery, Tucson, Arizona
