Henry (Hank) Gustav Grum, of Newberg, Oregon, passed away on December 31, 2025 at the age of 77. A devoted husband, father, and accomplished computer scientist, he leaves behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity and civic dedication.
A lifelong learner, Hank pursued his higher education at Northwestern University and the University of Arizona. His academic achievements were significant, earning him both a Master’s degree in Computer Science and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Hank dedicated his professional career to the advancement of science and technology. He spent 20 distinguished years working at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before his retirement. During this time, he was a resident of Livermore, California, for 25 years, where he raised his family and contributed to his community.Following his retirement, Hank relocated to Newberg, Oregon, where he resided for the past 20 years. Far from slowing down, he maintained a deep commitment to his neighbors and his city, demonstrating his passion for local leadership by running for Mayor of Newberg.
Hank shared 30 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jean McKay. He was a cherished figure in the lives of her children and grandchildren. He is survived by Jean; her five daughters, Angela, Heidi, Jillian, Anneliese, and Megan; and seven grandchildren. He is now reunited with his parents, Henry Leonard Grum and Blanche Libby Schwartz Grum, and his wife's daughter, Kirsty Loren Winkler, who passed before him.
A graveside service will be held on January 21, 2026 at Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater, WI at 11:30am local time

We Entrusted Henry Grum's Care To
Nitardy Funeral Homes - Whitewater
We have proudly served the Southern Wisconsin community since 1932, when our founder Hilmar A. Nitardy opened his first funeral home in the area. We feel very fortunate to continue serving the community three generations later. In 2007, we constructed our first funeral home in Whitewater. Here, our mission is the same as it has been for over 90 years: help walk our community through times of grief and provide beautiful and meaningful services to every family that walks through our doors. We are proud that Whitewater families trust us to take care of their loved ones....
