Joan Peters Duffy, 76, passed away January 19, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 24, 1949 in Springfield, MA to the late Ernest and Irene (Vandersingel) Marsh. Joan grew up in Westfield and attended St. Mary's Catholic School.
Joan previously worked as a supervisor at Northeast Utilities for many years before retiring. During her employment, Joan's recognized and superior work ethic was integral in the customer service and billing departments, and also in her management of the streetlights for all of western Massachusetts.
The two greatest pillars of Joan's life were her commitment to faith and family. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in South Hadley and also served as the secretary of rosary makers at Blessed Sacrament in Holyoke. Joan helped the Little Flower Rosary Makers at St. Theresa's in South Hadley, volunteered for the Booster Club at Mater Dolorosa for many years, and assisted friends at the Center Church in South Hadley during tag sale and Advent fairs.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Irene, and by her grandson, Tyler Chateauneuf.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Alan Duffy of South Hadley; son, Craig Duffy and partner, Carlos Vicenty, of Chicopee; daughter, Alison Chateauneuf and husband, Chris, of Chicopee; granddaughter, Kacey Chateauneuf of Chicopee; and her sister, Mary Barrett and husband, Kent, of Westfield; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 5-8pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass and burial will be held at the family's convenience. Flowers are welcome and donations can be made to Hospice of the Fisher Home, 1165 N. Pleasant St. Amherst, MA 01002.
