Edward J. Szydziak, 88, passed away on Feb. 3, 2026, in Leeds, MA at Linda Manor, just days shy of his 89th birthday. Born on Feb. 7, 1937, in Kostopol, Poland, Edward immigrated to the United States and settled in Chicopee, MA, where he made his home for the past 60 years.
Edward was a devoted family man who cherished his time with family. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Stella (Kopig) Szydziak, and by his siblings, Irene Olender, Jean Orlowski, and Richard Szydziak.
He leaves behind his beloved spouse, Carol A. (Bozek) Szydziak, and three children: Steven Szydziak (Lisa), Deborah Pise (David), and Todd Szydziak. He also leaves his two sisters, Hedy Morel and Wildonna Szydziak, as well as his four grandchildren, Lisa Machado (Ryan), Amanda Beshara (Adam), Abigail, and Sarah Szydziak, and three great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Harper Machado, and Kinsley Beshara.
Edward proudly served his country in the US Army and National Guard. Throughout his life, Edward was known for his dedication to hard work and his skillful hands. He owned and operated a barber shop in Indian Orchard. Later, he retired from the City of Chicopee, where he worked in schools the maintenance department.
Edward had a variety of interests. He found joy in bike riding and had a talent for refurbishing furniture. Known as a handyman, he relished taking on projects around his home.
Calling hours will be held on Mon., Feb. 9th, from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM, followed a prayer service. Burial with military honors will follow at 11:00am at the Mass. Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
