Michael Joseph Lynch, 74, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, following a very brief illness.

Born on September 14, 1951, Mike was a proud native of the D.C. area. He attended St. Catherine's Grade School and St. John's College High School before attending the University of Maryland. He dedicated his professional life to his work as a CADD Engineer, where his precision and patience served him well. A man of quiet kindness and a master of the dry "dad joke," Mike was a dedicated genealogist who spent much of his life meticulously researching family history. He found a deep sense of purpose in connecting the past with the present, ensuring that no story was forgotten.

Mike found joy in simple acts of service. In retirement, after visiting all 50 states, he started a transportation business driving friends and strangers (who quickly became friends) to the airport, so they could experience the joy of travel and connect with others. In his free time, you could find him cheering on the Maryland Terrapins, Washington Nationals, and Washington Commanders, or researching the family that had gone on before him. He always had a joke ready and a trivia question that he-without a doubt-knew the answer to.

Above all, Mike provided well and loved well. He was the loving husband of Claudia Lynch for almost 49 years and the dedicated father of Pete (Tanisha), Kimberly Hoover (Dan), and Jonathan. He was the proud "Popps" to Dillon and Emma, and a constant companion to his grand dog, Louie.

One of eight siblings, he is survived by Kathy Marohl (Steve), Dennis (Hilary), Terry (Cindy), Kevin (Jeri), Maureen McCarthy (John), Brian (Jenn), and John (Julie), along with his beloved brother-in-law, Harry Korab (Joyce). In addition, Mike shared a unique and cherished bond with his cousins and his nieces and nephews. Mike's passion for genealogy was legendary within the family. Through his tireless research, he turned distant relatives into dear friends, often knowing fourth cousins better than most people know their next-door neighbors. To Mike, genealogy was never just a hobby; it was a way to ensure every branch of the family tree felt seen, celebrated, and connected.

Mike was taken quickly, and the world was not ready for the hole he left behind. However, he leaves a legacy of integrity, laughter, and an immediate family that truly experienced the love of an earthly father.

To honor the life of Mike, donations may be made to Mud Ministry-The Popps Lynch Fund. All contributions will be dedicated to making life a little brighter for children, whether through the joy of summer camp, sports fees or by supporting those growing up without a "Popps." Our mission is simple: to make kids' lives a little better, just as he did.
