Formerly of Boston and Framingham, Massachusetts
Martin (Marty) Udelson passed away peacefully on his 90th birthday after a brief illness. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted Japanese Chin, Lucy, and by all who were fortunate to know his warmth, humor, and endless kindness.
Marty was the beloved husband of Carolyn Cohen Nathan, with whom he shared 26 wonderful years of marriage and a cherished friendship that spanned 67 years. A proud graduate of Boston University, Marty served in the Army National Guard Signal Corps before owning and operating an auto parts store in Framingham. His dedication to community shone through his fourteen years as a Captain in the Framingham Auxiliary Police, where he was honored with numerous awards recognizing his exemplary service and leadership.
In 1998, Marty married “his forever Carolyn,” and together they began a new chapter in Sarasota, Florida. They shared a love of travel and boating aboard their 38-foot Silverton, Good Times, and enjoyed membership in both the Charlesgate and Bradenton Yacht Clubs. After many wonderful years on the water, Marty continued his adventures traveling in his motorhome, where he delighted in meeting new friends everywhere he went.
In 2020, Marty and Carolyn moved to Freedom Village in Bradenton, Florida, where Marty quickly became a beloved part of the community. He will be fondly remembered for his joyful spirit, sense of fun, and his ever-present smile as he cruised around the campus on his motorized scooter with his “Turbo Turtle Buddies.”
Marty is survived by his sister, Ina Levine; his children, “My Son” Stephen and “Punim” Debra Goldman; grandchildren Dana, Rachel, and Corey; three great-grandchildren; and his stepchildren, Scott Nathan, Roberta Cohen, and Jon Nathan, along with grandchildren Jake, Zach, and Allie.
He will forever be remembered as happy, fun, helpful, loyal, and kind—the kind of person whose presence made every day brighter.
In keeping with Marty’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Freedom Village Associate Appreciation Fund, c/o Carolyn Nathan, 6404 21st Avenue W, H103, Bradenton, FL 34209-7803.
