Bonneva “Bonnie” Grayce Shontz (77), of St. Petersburg, FL, went home to be with the Lord and her two sons on February 12, 2026.

Bonnie was born March 29, 1948, in Greenville, PA, to Thomas Edward “Ted” McGrath and Ruth Isabelle (Romich) McGrath. As a child, She and her family spent many summers on Christy Lake, Canada. Bonnie attended Greenville High School and graduated from Slippery Rock College with a degree in Health and Physical Education. She was also a hairdresser while pursuing her education.

Greenville, PA is also where Bonnie fell deeply in love with David Neal Shontz; proven by their 55+ years of marriage. In 1983, Dave and Bonnie, with their 2 sons, Gregory Alan and Dustin Neal, embarked on a new journey to Madeira Beach, FL. Bonnie embraced the coastal lifestyle and ensured their new home was filled with love and cherished memories.

While Dave worked at the family restaurant in John’s Pass Village, Bonnie became a teacher at Pinellas Park Middle School. With a history of gymnastics in her own high school background, she felt a calling to teach Physical Education (PE). Later, she ventured to teaching computers in Business Education; she thoroughly enjoyed this! Dave could see how well She connected with her students and her commitment to their well-being by the vast number of them who approached her in public to say hello or give a thank you, even as adults! She retired, after 30 years, so She could spend time with her grandchildren, who adoringly call her “Meme.”

Also, after retirement, Bonnie and Dave took a “togetherness approach.” They loaded up the motor home (several times) and travelled across the United States together, creating memories, and enjoying each other.

Also, for over 30 years, their home away from home was the Riverside Campground in Arcadia, FL. There they created bonds with more friends than they could ever imagine. It was at the campground that She earned the name “Momeva.”

Bonnie always enjoyed having company. She provided a listening ear and stepped in to provide motherly guidance. She instilled traditions and memories in her family. She had great love for her family, her friends, and her beloved dog Benji.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, her 2nd born son (Dustin, 2012), her 1st born son (Gregory, 2023).

Bonnie is survived by her Husband, David Neal Shontz; her sister Ester (McGrath) Riccomini (Edenborough, PA), sister-in-law, Linda (Shontz) Rhoades (Greenville, PA), brother-in-law, Donald “Toby” Rhoades, Jr (Greenville, PA), daughter-in-law Dawn (Smith) Shontz (Seminole, FL), 2 grandchildren: Zachary David Shontz , Cadence Ann Shontz, many

nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends who became family through the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Seminole City Park, Parkview Room Building, 7464 Ridge Rd, Seminole, FL 33772, 1pm – 4pm. Lunch will be catered. Bring a picture or a story to share!
