Brandon Solomon Austin (Brandy/Nana), 81, of Sarasota, FL, passed away on February 26, 2026.

Born August 24, 1944, in New York City, she was the daughter of Leo Francis Armati and Lucille (Bicket) Armati. Brandy grew up in Scarsdale, New York, where she attended Scarsdale High School before continuing her education at Wheaton College and later The Catholic University of America, where she earned a Master’s degree in Social Work.

Brandy devoted her life to helping others. Early in her career she worked in the office of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, an experience that reflected her lifelong commitment to people and community. She later became a private practice social worker, serving individuals and families for more than twenty years with compassion, empathy, and wisdom.

Above all else, Brandy loved her family. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, who brought endless pride and happiness to her days. She was known for her vibrant spirit, joyful energy, deep loyalty, and unwavering love for the people in her life. Family gatherings were made even more special by her legendary baking—especially the cookies she proudly made for those she loved, widely regarded by family as the best cookies in the universe.

She is survived by husband William Austin, children David Solomon (Tina), Tracy Boyle (Mike), Dayna Solomon (Liam), Liza Parker (Rob), and Kirby Jones (Krista), and stepchildren Reily Austin and Sophie Lucia (Sam). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Benson Solomon (Jesie), Daniel Boyle (Casey), Rachel Boyle, Kellson Parker, Trevor Parker, Brayde Solomon, Josh O’Reilly, Sierra Jones, Tyler O’Reilly, Maury Solomon, and Olivia Solomon; great grandchild, Talia Solomon, as well as her brothers Mark Armati, John Armati, and sister-in-law Macki Bobys. And Chloe, her cherished fur baby.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbie Solomon, her brother Scott Armati, and her parents Leo and Bicket Armati.

A celebration of Brandy’s life will be held in Sarasota in the summer of 2026, with details to be shared with family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, World Central Kitchen, or the charity of your choice.

Brandy had a way of sending loved ones off into the world with warmth and optimism, often wishing them good luck before a journey with her familiar words, “Flya con dios.” She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Flya con dios Nana!
