Jerry Joseph Ryle, 75 Long time Niwot Resident Jerry Ryle died peacefully in his sleep at his home on March 17, 2014. A service will be help at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont Colorado on April 24. The rosary is at 10 AM followed by mass at 10:30. Jerry was born in Dubuque, Iowa on 9/15/1938 to Ethel (Huekels) Gable and Joseph Ryle. Jerry received electronics training in the navy and worked at IBM for 32 years. He moved to Niwot, Colorado in 1971 from Manhattan Beach, California while working for IBM. After his retirement from the hi-tech industry he worked part time educating fellow outdoor enthusiasts at the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Mr. Ryle shared his love for the outdoors with his children, whom he took on numerous camping and fishing adventures in Colorado. He also enjoyed motorcycling the desert of Utah and hunting in the American west with his children and grandchildren. Salmon fishing with his brother Gene Ryle was an activity he truly loved. Jerry was the first to initiate a rousing game of Euchre whenever his kids were in town. He also coached his daughter’s softball teams and was best described as a dedicated family man. Jerry liked to keep busy and work with his hands. He fixed TV’s for people in the neighborhood, loved building birdhouses and enjoyed rebuilding computers that he would donate to the elderly. Making lamps out of old blowtorches for family and friends kept him busy during retirement as well as volunteering at St. John’s Food Bank. He is survived wife Bernadette Ryle (Rabin), his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bryan DeGarmo, his grandchildren Mattison and Lucas DeGarmo of Castle Rock, son Matthew Ryle of Niwot, Colorado, and son Marc Ryle of Portland, Maine. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Colleen Anne (Ryle) Hillyer (4/5/1993).
