Elva Marie Blair
October 17th, 1924 - August 15th, 2014
Elva Marie Blair, 89 of Surgoinsville, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, August 15, 2014 at her residence following a long illness. She was a life-long resident of Hawkins County and a member of Jenkins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She was saved at an early age and was baptized by her father in Possum Creek. She later wanted to be baptized in the river, so on August 7, 2011 she was baptized in the Holston River by Elder Fred Gilreath and Elder Russell Davidson. After that, she was content that, her duties as a Christian was pleasing to the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Blair; parents, Rev. Pleas Jenkins and Vertie Thacker Jenkins; sister, Callie Horton; brothers, Earl, Bill and Frank Jenkins. Elva is survived by her son, Darrell Blair and wife Christine; grandchildren, Michael Blair, Michelle "Sissy" Blair, Tina Johnson, Tamara Smith and Todd Stubblefield; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Hannah Blair, Jessica Hilton, Whitney Johnson, Dustin Johnson, Hayden Smith, Austin Stubblefield, Emily Stubblefield, Jake Stapleton, Jordan Stapleton and Josie Stapleton; great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Hilton, Bailey Harrison and one on the way, Bella Blair Hilton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Friends are welcome to come by the home any time. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Elder Fred Gilreath and Chaplain Jerry Ketron officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery (Stanley Valley). Pallbearers will be Michael Blair, Reese Jenkins, Eckel Jenkins, Tony Matlock, Chris "Chee" Davis, Chuck McClellan, Todd Stubblefield and Jerry McClain. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Onks, Charlie Thacker, Dan Thacker, Wayne Larkins, Wayne Matlock, Curt Blair, Johnny Walters and James Stapleton. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her special caregivers, Robin and Chris Davis, Tina Johnson, Tamara Smith and Chris Blair. Also, to Dr. Gary Casey and nurse Darlene, Smokey Mtn. Hospice nurses and caregivers, Erica, Dawn, Rhonda, Tina, Polly, Holly, Dr. Williams and Jerry Ketron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Community Cemetery Fund or the Jenkins Chapel Cemetery Fund, O/C Darrell Blair, 3548 Stanley Valley Road, Surgoinsville, TN 37873. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Blair family.
