March 12th, 1940 - December 27th, 2016
Dewey Coleman Harbin of Gate City, VA passed away peacefully at his home on December 27, 2016 following an extended illness. Born on March 12th, 1940 in Dunbar, VA, he was preceded in death by both parents Dolly and Joseph Harbin; his sister, Myrtle Harbin Kidd; four brothers, Clyde, Harold, Tommy, Wilburn; and 2 grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years Darlene Grimm Harbin of home; daughters, Sandra (Micheal) Graham of Gastonia, NC., Susan (James) Sampson of Gate City, VA., Brooke (David) Jeffers of Church Hill, TN. Son, Fredrick (Michelle) Harbin of Grundy, VA. Grandchildren Julie (Christopher) Carroll, Shannon (Alesha) Rhoton, Shawn (Tabatha) Rhoton, Sydney (Matthew) Ison, Paige Bowen, and Hunter Harbin. Great Grandchildren Aiden and Bryce Rhoton, Lexie and Bentley Carroll, Kenleigh Rhoton, and Kyleigh Ison. Dewey was a member of Cowans Branch Missionary Baptist Church of Gate City, VA., where he served as a deacon for several years. He retired as a Superintendent of R.S. Jones Construction Company. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry work and spending time with his family. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 at Cowans Branch Baptist Church, Gate City or anytime at the home. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the church with Preacher Raymond Conkin and Wayne McCarty, officiating. Music will be provided by the Cowans Branch Church Choir. Pallbearers, Shannon Rhoton, Shawn Rhoton, Mike Rhoton, Hunter Harbin, Christopher Carroll, and David Jeffers. Honorary Pallbearers, Michael Graham, James Sampson, Steve Elliott, R.S. Calhoun, Ron McGhee, Robert Falin, Jerry Grim, and Matthew Ison. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Carter Trent Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses. Burial at be at 11am Friday, December 30, 2016 at Jones Cemetery of Gate City. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Cowans Branch Baptist Church by 10:30AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
