Nell Duncan Goodson, age 104, of Surgoinsville, went home to be with the Lord and her family on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Church Hill Healthcare and Rehab. She was a wonderful caring and loving mother to her family. She spent many years attending the First Baptist Church of Surgoinsville where she had many friends. She was widowed at an early age and relied on her faith in God to live her life and she could still recall scripture she had memorized many years ago. Nell had spent about 5 years in assisted living before she entered the Church Hill Healthcare and Rehab where she had resided since March of 2013. Nell is preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Elmer Goodson; son, Kenneth Doyle Goodson; parents, Houston "H.B." Banner and Laura Ball Duncan; and siblings, Lon, Leona, Haynes, Kyle, Ray, Victor, Grace, Bess, Irene, Bernice and Blanche. She is survived by her daughters, Imogene Goodson Trent and the late, William Guy Trent, and Pamela Goodson Ward and husband, Mike Ward; daughter-in-law, Betty Goodson; grandchildren, William "Bill" Charles Trent (Tom Ranz), Tracy Goodson Espy (Sam), Elizabeth Trent-Metz (John), Philip Guy Trent, Brandon Ward (Sarah) and Laura Ward Shealy (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Will Trent, Monica Trent, Carter Metz, Amelia Metz, Houston Meade and Thompson Ward; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends. The family would like to thank all the staff of The Place, Crown Cypress and Church Hill Health Care and Rehab for their loving care during Nell's stay at their facilities. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Surgoinsville. Funeral services will begin at 6:00 pm with Rev. Andy Willis and Rev. Tecky Hicks officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Highland Cemetery in Rogersville, with Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at approximately 1:50 pm. Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill is proudly serving the Goodson family.
